We are thrilled to issue Changi Airport with our first-ever accredited ISO/IEC 42001 certificate, proving its commitment to safe and secure artificial intelligence (AI).
Changi Airport Group received the certificate, accredited by the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC), after successfully implementing an AI management system (AIMS). The scope covered the safe and secure development and deployment of five AI-driven commercial and passenger-related applications:
- Customer lifetime value (CLV): forecast of the total revenue expected from a single customer based on their transactions
- Product recommender: determining the relevant offers and product options for a customer based on purchase behavior and product preferences
- Propensity prediction: estimations to help determine the likelihood of potential leads purchasing a particular product category or performing certain actions
- Generative AI search: using Gen AI to improve the search engine experience
- Passenger transfer estimation: using machine learning to efficiently calculate the best estimate of transferring passengers
Aymeric Riverieulx, Head of Innovation, Mobility and Digital Trust Assurance at SGS, thanked his team for their dedication. He said: “We are happy to present our first accredited ISO/IEC 42001 certificate to the Changi Airport Group. It’s also amazing that it is the world’s first ISO/IEC 42001 certificate for airport customer services, which puts Changi at the forefront of customer AI safety and security.
“ISO/IEC 42001 is the leading AI standard for helping entities and society take advantage of the evolving technology while providing peace of mind that systems are being established and operated sensibly. Certification is a testament to the airport team’s determination to utilize the technology most safely and securely.”
The news comes after we issued China’s first ISO/IEC 42001 certificate to OrionStar Robotics last year and our inaugural (FDIS) ISO/IEC 42001 certificate to AI Clearing in 2023.
What is ISO/IEC 42001?
In response to the rise of AI and the challenges it creates, the ISO and IEC created the ISO/IEC 42001 standard.
This global standard specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an AIMS. The goal is to help organizations and society benefit the most from AI while reassuring stakeholders that systems are being developed and used responsibly.
What are the benefits of ISO/IEC 42001 certification?
ISO/IEC 42001 certification follows successful completion of an audit and enables you to:
- Implement AI safely, with evidence of responsibility and accountability
- Consider security, safety, fairness, transparency and data and AI system quality throughout the life cycle
- Show that introducing AI is a strategic decision with clear objectives
- Indicate strong governance concerning AI
- Strike a balance between governance and innovation
- Ensure that AI is used responsibly, especially concerning its continuous learning
- Ensure that all relevant safeguards are in place
- Combine key frameworks with experience to implement crucial processes like risk, life cycle and data quality management
- Contribute to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
SAC-accredited ISO/IEC 42001 certification
To implement an AIMS, you will need a solid understanding of ISO/IEC 42001's requirements. We offer training to provide the required knowledge.
Once the system is in place, we can provide a gap assessment. After the successful completion of an audit, we will issue your SAC-accredited certificate, confirming the effective implementation of the standard's requirements.
