China Releases Updated Product Standard GB/T 31900-2024 For Woven Children's Clothing

China has issued an updated version of the national product standard, GB/T 31900-2024, for woven children's clothing. The revised standard will become effective on December 1, 2026.

The Standardization Administration of China has issued the national product standard GB/T 31900-2024, for woven children's clothing. Included in China’s No. 29 announcement of approved national standards in 2024, this new standard replaces the previous version, GB/T 31900-2015. The new national standard will become effective on December 1,2026.

Scope

This document applies to children's clothing primarily made from woven fabrics. It does not apply to clothes with down and feather fillings, clothing with textile fiber fillings, or clothing intended for infants 36 months or younger.

Main physical and chemical property

Requirements for physical and chemical characteristics shall comply with table 5 of GB/T 31900-2024. These requirements include fiber content, formaldehyde content, pH value, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines, odor, dimensional change after washing/drycleaning, shell colorfastness (dry cleaning, washing with soap or soap and soda, rubbing, transfer in joints, perspiration, water, artificial light, phenolic yellowing), lining colorfastness (dry cleaning, washing with soap or soap and soda, dry rubbing, perspiration, water), pilling, seam slippage, force to seam rupture, tear force, peeling force at parts covered with adhesive interlinings, safety specifications for cords and drawstrings on children’s clothing, and appearance after laundering/drycleaning. Children's clothing intended to be worn by children from ages three to 14 must also comply with the rules in GB 31701.

Compared with GB/T 31900-2015, GB/T 31900-2024 contains many updates, including:

  6. Requirements for appearance defects
  7. Requirements for sewing
  8. Requirements for ironing
  9. Requirements for colorfastness to wet rubbing
  10. Requirements for appearance after laundering
  11. Requirements for footnote of physical and chemical property
  12. Test methods
  13. Inspection rules
