New York state has introduced a bill to ban polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in cookware. If approved, the ban will become effective in January 2026.
On January 13, 2025, the US state of New York introduced SB 1767 to ban the use of PTFE in cookware. The proposal would add a new Title 12 to Article 37 of the state’s environmental conservation law. According to the definitions in the proposed law, PTFE refers to the compound used as a coating in non-stick cookware.
