Georgia, USA, Intends to Regulate Flame Retardants in Certain Products

The US state of Georgia has introduced a proposed law to regulate flame retardants in consumer goods. This Act will take effect once it becomes law.

On January 13, 2025, Georgia introduced HB 9, the ‘Safer States Act’, to regulate several flame retardants in certain consumer goods. This proposed law would revise Chapter 15 of Title 25 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to other safety inspections and regulations.

Highlights of HB 9 are summarized in Table 1.
